Cultural Activites
On October 22nd, Saudade School will be taking its students on a guided tour of the São Jorge Castle!
São Jorge Castle is located on the highest hill in Lisbon’s historic city centre. The hill has been inhabited since the Iron Age and the Roman occupation. The castle was built between the 11th and 13th centuries, and it was designated a National Monument in 1910.
In addition to the guided tour, we will also have the opportunity to take part in an activity organised by the São Jorge Castle Educational Centre.
We can’t wait to learn more, and we are sure it will be a wonderful afternoon!

Book Club Meetings
Autumn has arrived, and with it the darker days (we eagerly await the colder days). The nights are getting longer, and with them the desire to read more.
Also approaching is a date we celebrate in Portugal as All Saints’ Day, November 1st – a date fixed since the 8th century. This date celebrates all the saints and martyrs of the Catholic Church, but in truth, it has a different origin and roots in much older Celtic traditions – All Hallows’ Eve, celebrated on October 31st, and which we all know today as Halloween!
So, this October, for the 9th session of our book club, we have another literary challenge! We went to the darkest corners of Portuguese literature, wandered through labyrinths and dreadful corridors, opened creaking doors, became covered in cobwebs, fled from bats, encountered skeletons and very, very strange people… and beneath years of dust, discovered fantastic tales!
We sought out mystery and fantasy in Portuguese to bring you three short stories.
As always, we hope to see you all on October 31st at 3pm!
